Coronation Street favourite Fiona Middleton returned to Weatherfield via Skype earlier this week, but actor Angela Griffin has now revealed that she did actually visit the set in person to film her scenes.

Fiona, who was played by Angela in the 1990s, made an appearance after her daughter Emma Brooker video-called her mum to hear the truth about her biological father.

Fans were delighted to see Fiona (kind of) back on the cobbles – and were also shocked by the quality of Weatherfield's internet – so Angela has since given us all a behind-the-scenes look at her brief cameo.

Sharing on-set photos of her re-visiting The Rovers and her old salon, as well as a selfie with Sue Nicholls (Audrey Roberts) and Alexandra Mardell (Emma Brooker), Angela told fans that she had "absolutely loved" her "short but sweet return" to the ITV soap.

"Never officially made it back onto the cobbles on screen but I sneaked on anyway... Who remembers Hair By Fiona Middleton? Catchy name," the actress wrote on Instagram.

She added: "Absolutely loved my short but sweet return. Let's see how it pans out with Emma, Steve and Tracy..."

And speaking of Emma, Alexandra Mardell has confirmed that her character will be sticking around in Weatherfield for a while longer after she signed a new contract with the soap.

Her extended stay on Corrie follows Steve McDonald's awkward funeral bombshell, when he revealed that he was Emma's real dad – but despite her initial shock, Alexandra has promised that "Emma isn't one to hold a grudge".

Teasing her character's future, she said: "No-one will ever replace her dad, but her mum lives in Australia and she doesn't have any other family on the Street so it would be a waste to let that relationship go.

"She bonds with Liz quite quickly, she's part of the family, they're taking her in. She's a McDonald now. There's a lot coming up."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
