Angela Merkel 'Assassination' Attempt Foiled After Man Attempts To Infiltrate Motorcade

A man has been arrested following a suspected assassination attempt on German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The politician was in Prague yesterday (Wednesday) when a man in a black Mercedes 4x4 tried to drive into her motorcade, which was travelling between Prague airport and the Czech government headquarters.

Czech police spokesman Josef Bocan told The Mirror that the man was in custody, suspected of “attempting to cause a crime - specifically an attempt to use violence against an official.

“Thanks to the professional actions of officers, Angela Merkel’s life was not in danger.

"The incident is currently being investigated by Prague detectives.”

Local media reports that a baton, cement blocks, tear gas and handcuffs were found in the man’s vehicle.

Merkel was in the country to hold talks with Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka about the migrant crisis.

The Chancellor received an angry reception from Czech protesters, including members of anti-Islam groups, who held aloft banners reading ‘Merkel must go’.
