Angelina Jolie has told Vanity Fair that “things got bad” during her marriage to Brad Pitt, saying she’s still “healing” from the events that led to their 2016 divorce.

Speaking about the breakdown of her marriage for the first time in a magazine interview, the Hollywood actress said she’s been going through the “hardest time”.

“Things got bad," she told the magazine. “I didn’t want to use that word...things became difficult.

“It’s just been the hardest time, and we’re just kind of coming up for air.”

Jolie added: “We’re all just healing from the events that led to the filing. [The children are] not healing from divorce. They’re healing from some...from life, from things in life."

In the interview, the actress also revealed that she had been diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy last year, a result of damage to facial nerves which causes one side of the face to droop.

Jolie and Pitt ended their 12-year relationship last September after two years of marriage, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ in divorce papers.

The A-list actress gave her first TV interview about her divorce to BBC News back in February, saying: “I don’t want to say very much about that, except to say it was a very difficult time and we are a family, and we will always be a family.”

Pitt spoke about the split during a candid interview with GQ Style earlier this year, telling the magazine that he was “keeping the ship afloat” for his children.

“Kids are everything. Kids are your life. They’re taking all the focus, as they should anyway,” he said.
