Angelina Jolie files for divorce from Brad Pitt

Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, citing a conflict over the celebrity couple’s six kids.

The 41-year-old actress’s lawyer Robert Offer said in a statement that the decision had been made “for the health of the family”.

He added: “She will not be commenting and asks that the family be given privacy at this time.”

According to US gossip site TMZ, Angelina filed the legal documents on Monday citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ and is now seeking custody of the children.

Sources connected to the couple said Angelina’s decision has been sparked by the way Brad was parenting the children, claiming she was “extremely upset with his methods.”

There is no mention of any ‘third person’ in the divorce papers – the decision is solely about Brad’s ‘interaction’ with their kids.

Angelina lists the date of separation as September 15, 2016, the TMZ claims.

The couple have been together since 2004, and married in August 2014.

Angelina is being represented by Laura Wasser, who recently repped Johnny Depp during his bitter divorce battle with Amber Heard.

Brad’s first marriage to actress Jennifer Aniston famously ended in 2005 as a result of a relationship with Angelina which blossomed on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith.

It’ll be the third divorce for Jolie, who was previously married to Johnny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton.

The couple haven’t been seen out in public together for months, and were last photographed together in November while plugging their movie By The Sea, which told the story of a warring married couple.

“It was our way of testing ourselves,” Angelina said recently. “We knew that if we could get through this, we’d come out even stronger and happier. And we did,’ she said of making the film.

“I don’t think we want to go through it again though.”
