Angelina Jolie Gets New Job As A Professor At LSE

Mother, United Nations special envoy, actress, humanitarian and now professor, Angelina Jolie has taken a job at the London School of Economics.

The Oscar-winner is to become a visiting professor at the school’s Centre for Women, Peace and Security, which she launched with William Hague in 2015.

She will teach on the masters course on women, peace and security, starting next year, which studies the impact of war on women.

“It is vital that we broaden the discussion on how to advance women’s rights and end impunity for crimes that disproportionately affect women, such as sexual violence in conflict,” said Jolie in a statement.

“I am looking forward to teaching and to learning from the students, as well as to sharing my own experiences of working alongside governments and the United Nations.”

A spokesperson for the LSE told The Guardian that Jolie and Hague will teach at least once a year for the period of their fellowship, and ‘as often as their schedules, and their commitment as agreed with the centre director, will allow’.

The role will be unpaid, and will involve giving lectures, formulating and taking part in workshops and conducting research.

Visiting professorships are, according to the LSE, given to those ‘who have appropriate distinction within their area of (non-academic) practice’ and are ‘individuals who have achieved prominence in public service, or who have attained distinction in their profession and through their practical experience’.

Lord Hague and Jolie have worked together since 2012, when they co-founded a global initiative to combat sexual violence in war zones.

The actress became involved with the subject while making her 2011 movie 'In The Land of Blood and Honey’, her directorial debut, which was set during war in Bosnia.
