Good news, Animal Crossing fans – the new game has arrived a day early, meaning it's available right now.

Nintendo has already released Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp to the iOS and Google Play app stores, one day ahead of schedule.

The game brings the popular simulation game to players’ smartphones – a departure for the series.

Pocket Camp places gamers in charge of a campsite with cute animal inhabitants. Collecting resources means you can expand your camp, offer new activities, and keep your visitors happy.

Best of all, it’s a free to play game, with optional in-app purchases for players who want to cut down on wait times.

Pocket Camp marks the first proper Animal Crossing game since 2012’s New Leaf on 3DS, with fans remaining vocal about their wishes for a new instalment.

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer arrived in 2015, offering a different take on the series’ usual gameplay.

Android users can get stuck in to Pocket Camp on the Google Play store here, while the iOS app can be found on the App Store here.

The iOS version currently seems to be experiencing some connection issues – so Apple users hoping to get an early head start should beware of potential glitches.
