Marcella star Anna Friel has found her newest project.

The actress, who has also appeared in Pushing Daisies and Brookside, will be starring in Monarch, described as a "country music dynasty" drama.

As reported by Deadline, Friel will be starring alongside The Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Witches of Eastwick actress Susan Sarandon in the upcoming series.

Sarandon will be playing the Queen of Country Music Dottie Cantrell Roman, matriarch of the Roman family who are regarded as America's First Family when it comes to country music.

The family's success is based on lies, and everything threatens to crumble all around them if their porkies are exposed. That is unless family heir Nicolette 'Nicky' Roman (played by Friel) has anything to say about it.

The synopsis states that she will stop at nothing to protect her family, while balancing all that with her ambition to become a huge star in her own right.

As for the rest of the cast, this is the first major project for creator Melissa London Hilfers, while Instinct boss Michael Rauch is serving as showrunner. Country music boss Jason Owen, who manages real life stars Kacey Musgraves, Faith Hill and others, is one of the executive producer.

Elsewhere for Friel, Marcella returned for its third series recently, taking place in a brand new location with a new premise after the series 2 finale took sharp turn in its last few minutes.

Although the change in formula means the show could easily go on, creator Hans Rosenfeldt exclusively told Digital Spy: "I haven’t even though about (season 4) yet, to be honest.

"Because there is, as I’ve said, no obvious thread to say, 'Let’s start there. That was interesting'... In a good way, you can do anything, basically. And in a bad way, there’s nothing to spark your imagination into, 'Oh, that would be fun.'"

It isn't known just yet when Monarch will air, but it looks like it will be coming to Fox in the US.
