Anna Maxwell Martin has said she would return to Line Of Duty "in a heartbeat", adding she would have taken a role as an extra because she felt so lucky to be in the show.

Fans of the BBC police corruption drama have been keen to see it come back for a season seven and it seems Maxwell Martin, who played the formidable Detective Chief Superintendent Patricia Carmichael, is in agreement with them.

She also spoke to This Morning about the possibility of a Motherland comeback, as well as playing a real-life character in new true crime series Until I Kill You.

The Motherland star said she would play Carmichael again "in a heartbeat" and would even have worked as an extra just to land a role in the show that stars Adrian Dunbar, Martin Compston and Vicky McClure.

She said of her terrifying character: "I love Pat. I'd do that again in a heartbeat, that part, I absolutely had a laugh. (The audience) didn't like her, but you know...good!"

Maxwell Martin added of joining the main cast: "I didn't feel pressure because I felt so lucky. Some jobs, you just think, oh my god I feel so lucky to be here. I would have made a cup of tea in the back of shot - I just felt really lucky to be there. I didn't feel pressure. I just thought, yippee."

She said that she had felt equally lucky to star in BBC sitcom Motherland, but couldn't confirm whether that would be getting a new series, either.

Motherland, created by Sharon Horgan and starring Maxwell Martin with Diane Morgan, Paul Ready, Tanya Moodie, Lucy Punch and Philippa Dunne, ran for three seasons and last aired in 2022 for a Christmas special.

Asked whether there would be any new episodes, Maxwell Martin said: "I don't know. Obviously, there's brilliant Amandaland coming with Lucy (Punch, who played Amanda) and Phil (Dunne, Amanda's sidekick Anne), so I'm really pleased about that. So maybe that will fill the hole that is left and I'm sure that will do really, really well. I'm so glad the girls have got that show."

She added: "I loved the whole cast so much, we had such a good time," but said of castmate Morgan: "You can't go anywhere with Diane, I tell you. She's like a beacon. She is a beacon. People are like, 'Diane, Diane, Diane, Diane, Diane'. I'm like, 'Diane, put a hat on!'."

Maxwell Martin can next be seen in a drama series starring in ITV's true crime Until I Kill You, where she plays Delia Balmer in the show inspired by Balmer's book about living with serial killer John Sweeney.

Talking about playing a real-life person, she said: "There's only pressure in that you don't want to be disrespectful and get it wrong, so you have to be quite diligent in your work, you can't be lazy and say I'll phone it in on the day, otherwise you wouldn't be doing your job."

But she added: "I can definitely finish the work and go home and have a gin and tonic because it's not my life, it's not my story and I think to wear it heavier than that would be to say you are walking in someone's shoes and you're not. Delia suffered terribly, she has gone on to thrive in her life and that's to be admired. It affected Delia, it didn't happen to me."

This Morning airs on ITV1 at 10am on weekdays.
