Yahoo News Annabelle: Creation's first reviews are full of praise
It's not in cinemas until August, but the first reviews have already landed for Annabelle: Creation.
The prequel to Annabelle, a spin-off from the Conjuring universe, it will tell the story of how the haunted killer doll came to be, and it sounds like it could be a rare horror sequel that's better than the original.
Then again, Annabelle wasn't exactly brilliant, so it's perhaps not hard.
Still, the first reviews are full of praise for David F Sandberg's continuation, with the director building on the promise of his feature debut Lights Out.
"The jaded may not join their more receptive moviegoers in arm grabbing, screaming, and loudly warning characters not to go in there, but they're still likely to smile at the elegant skill on display."
"Closer in tone and old-school psychological fright tactics to the original film than either The Conjuring 2 or Annabelle, David F. Sandberg's incisive approach capably resets the franchise in what will surely become another hit horror sequel for New Line Cinema."
