Scared: Anne Hathaway recreates the near-miss on The Tonight Show: The Tonight Show

Anne Hathaway has joked that she “almost killed” her son on an “unusual” slide.

The US actress, 34, escaped injury after she shot down the playground equipment at speed with 12-month-old son, Jonathan, on her lap.

Hathaway made the confession on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where she tried to recreate the near-miss.

Recalling the incident in a New York City park she said: “We go down the slide and what I hadn’t thought about was physics. We go around the corner and instead of slowing down like the other kids we speed up.

“It starts to go so fast, and all the mums are watching, and I'm so self-conscious. As it speeds up, my thoughts slow down, and I just look ahead and I get very serious and very focused and I think, ‘I must stick this landing’.

Sitting with her legs in the air and pretending to hold her son she finished: “I shoot off the slide with Johnny and I stuck that landing.”

Clearly able to laugh about the incident she continued: “You know, when you almost killed your child, but you didn't. In the inside you're like, 'Everything's OK. Walk it off, walk it off’.

“Then we went back to the swings and stayed there forever.”

Hathway welcomed her first child with husband Adam Shulman in March 2016.

The actress had made no secret about wanting to become a mother, telling Vogue in 2013: “Oh, my God. I want to be a mother, and I anticipate loving my children quite fiercely. I think about it all the time, though it's a silly thing to think about because the kind of mother I'll be depends on the kind of children I have. I can't wait to meet them.”
