Anne Hegerty screamed I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here after being covered with mealworms in her first Bushtucker trial.

The Governess, who stars on The Chase, uttered the fateful words to free her from Monstrous Monoliths after just one round where she won two stars.

Hegerty had managed to power through the first challenge where she was gunged with green slime but faltered on the second round before shouting to get out of the trial.

As she was freed from the Perspex boxes, Declan Donnelly and Holly Willoughby, who had been offering reassurance throughout the short trial, were on hand to comfort Hegerty.

Donnelly said: “You’ve got two stars in that bag. There are plenty of people who have taken on Bushtucker Trials and haven’t even got two.”

Willoughby added that they were “really proud of her for testing herself” as she tried to free to stars from the stones to get food.

On her way back to Snake Rock, Hegerty explained: “I did the first one in 90 seconds. That was ok. I got two stars. Then it all went pear shaped. Absolutely freak out disgusting.

“And I came out and I was just covered in gunk and mealworms and I was like no, no more, can’t do it so I shouted I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!

“Well we got two meals for the other camp. Aren’t they lucky. I really really hope that they’re glad.”

Later on, campmate James McVey, who rose to fame in boyband The Vamps, gushed over the star’s “bravery” and her Bushtucker attempt.

McVey said: “The sheer fact that she’s here at all is a testament to her bravery. We’re just really glad that she came back.

“Emily left us yesterday so we’re really glad that she’s back because I don’t think we can face losing another one of our team yellow.”

I’m A Celebrity continues Wednesday at 9pm on ITV.
