Annie Lennox told she's got 'potential' by clueless radio professional

Oh dear. Spare a thought for the hapless radio researcher who didn’t know who Annie Lennox was and contacted the music icon saying she ‘promoted artists with potential’ and invited Annie to send an MP3 in.

Bet her face is nice and red today.

The radio pro, known only as Kylie, emailed four-time Grammy winning Lennox telling her that if her program director Glen ‘likes her new single’ he might play it on their LA-based station and if they ‘really like it’ they will cover Lennox’s marketing expenses. Imagine!

Kylie was clearly unaware of Lennox’s legendary career, which include four Grammys (out of 15 nominations), eight Brit awards, an MTV Video Music Award, and an Academy Award for Best Original Song for her 2004 track Into the West for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

Lennox, 62, who has sold 75 million records, posted the email on her Facebook page with the caption ‘I think I’m in with a chance!’ but was gracious enough to block out the name of the radio station.

Poor Kylie has since been trounced online for not doing her research with some people even calling for her to be fired.

But mostly the naive email was met with bemusement.

Commenter Sybil McGuire wrote, ‘Dear lord, who is this clueless child that cannot use google?’ while Tyler Horton pointed out a potential generation gap being to blame for the mishap. He wrote, ‘Poor Kylie. I was at a Trivia night recently and the answer to the clue was “The Eurythmics.” The young, [millennial] trivia host announced the answer as “The Your-e-theem-ics.” I nearly died.’

Commenter Jeffery Swiney-Weaver racked up the likes after advising Lennox email Kylie back with the names of ‘a few other artists that might need your assistance’ – Elton John, Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper and Cher.

Oh well. Google is there for a reason, eh Kylie?
