'Subway Worker' Reveals Why You Probably Shouldn’t Order Their ‘Fresh’ Chicken Sandwich

A person claiming to be a Subway staff member has taken to Reddit to spill the sandwich chain’s beans.

The anonymous poster, known only as ‘subwayworkeruk’, invited Reddit users to ask anything they wanted about the chain.

‘Anything’ turned out mostly to be ‘what’s the best sandwich’, to which the original poster had varying answers.

The best value subs, they said, are “Meatball Marinara, Chipotle Chicken, Tikka Chicken, Spicy Italian BMT” because you can nab them for £3 with a drink AND get 20% off between 7 and 9pm.

But before you rush for them, perhaps avoid the chicken. When asked what they’d avoid, the poster said, “Chipotle Chicken & Teriyaki Chicken (Why? Chicken is given a two day shelf life, once in the counter. However these two bypass this and get four days, and can get a little stinky).”

At this point an American Subway employee chimed in, claiming that some of their chicken is re-dated and left even longer. Eat fresh!

A confirmed veggie, the original poster went on to list chicken as the one thing they wouldn’t eat in the store. Why? The smell.

The mystery of why your footlong isn’t always a foot long was also discussed.

“'Subway Footlong’ is a trade mark of Subway, and is just the name of the submarine sandwich size,” the employee wrote.

“However due to a lawsuit, subway have decided to ensure each footlong is exactly 12 inches. In regards to shrinkage, minor shrinkage occurs when the bread is baked. We have a measuring ruler built into the counter (normally only used for kids packs, 4inch sandwiches), and our bread seems to always be around 12.1 inches.

“Here’s a little tip - if you want a footlong, try flatbread. The way flatbread is made and prepared we give you 14inches.”

And it’s bad news for anyone hoping to recreate that Subway experience at home - subwayworkeruk wouldn’t reveal the secret recipe for the stores’ breads or sauces. Spoilsport.
