Another Cornwall shop targeted by burglars

Another shop in Cornwall has been broken into. Police confirmed the burglary - thought to be at a Co-op - happened in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday, January 22, at St Columb Major. It follows a number of similar incidents across Cornwall in recent weeks.

Two people forced entry to a commercial premises in Fore Street around 1.35am. Property was taken from the store and two people fled the scene, police have said.

It is thought the store is closed today. A local resident said: "St Columb Major Co-op currently closed due to being broken into last night."

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at around 1.35am on Wednesday 22 January following reports of a burglary at a commercial premises in Fore Street, St Columb Major.

"It was reported that entry was forced and property stolen. Two suspects then left the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing. Anybody with information or relevant CCTV footage is asked to call 101 or visit our website quoting 50250017185".

The break-in at St Columb Major follows a number of similar incidents in Newquay and St Austell. Two people broke into Westways Filling Station at Tregaswith, near St Columb Major, at around 5am on January 6, They took cigarettes, tobacco and alcohol.

Police also responded to reports of an attempted break in Spar at Tower Road, Newquay, on Saturday night, January 4, and a burglary took place at Spar in Quintrell Downs shortly after 3am on January 5. Two suspects forced entry to the premises and stole cigarettes before leaving the scene.

On Tuesday, January 20, three masked men smashed their way into a Texaco petrol station on Southbourne Road in St Austell during the early hours of the morning. They searched the premises before escaping with several thousands of pounds worth of tobacco, cigarettes and vape fluid. A small amount of cash was also stolen, police said.

It is not known at this stage if the break-ins are linked.
