'Another Nuneaton tradition gone' as town mourns loss of historic carnival
Locals are mourning the loss of a Nuneaton rite of passage for generations - the annual carnival. Committee members announced that it is the end of the road for the event.
It comes after a failed hunt to find a new chairman to take over the committee of volunteers. Now it appears that the event will now be consigned to the history books.
The event was run by a small army of volunteers and not the local council and first started in 1930 styled as Nuneaton Hospital Carnival. This was pre NHS days and the event raised money for what was known as Nuneaton General Hospital.

Over almost 100 years the event has been a rite of passage for locals to take their place on a float or line the streets to donate pennies for local good causes.
The carnival has helped to raise thousands of pounds with this year's donations given to the People in Action charity. The committee said that the decision to end the carnival was a 'difficult' one.
Nuneaton's Carnival was one of the last remaining in the area and locals are mourning the loss of the event, which is known by generations across the town.
