Yahoo News Ant & Dec guest's bigamy was "total shock", says wife
The woman who discovered that her husband was a bigamist after he appeared on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway has spoken out, saying that the discovery was a "total shock".
Appearing on This Morning, Helen Gundry explained that she was watching the Saturday primetime show at home with her daughter Daisy back in March 2016, when they saw Daniel on the screen.
He was seen with Susan Brooker during a segment on the ITV series, as they were among the guests being taken to a surprise wedding for her sister.
"I didn't know what to think," she said. "It was just a shock. Daisy collapsed. It was total shock."
Helen and Daniel had been separated for six years but had rekindled their relationship.
"I tried messaging him," Helen recalled, of seeing her husband with another woman. "We used to talk on WhatsApp every day. I could see he had read my messages but wasn't replying. He did finally phone me the day after but by then it had all gone viral."
Helen explained that his new wife, Susan, was similarly in the dark about Daniel's bigamy.
"I went to the police for my own piece of mind," Helen added. "Everyone was telling me that I was a jealous, bitter ex-wife, and that we were not married. So I had to prove it. I went to the police.
"We were expecting a suspended sentence and maybe community service. We were not expecting him to go to prison at all."
Susan did not appear on This Morning, but passed on a message saying that "justice has been served and the book is firmly closed".
