Ant-Man 2's Hannah John-Kamen is a huge Spice Girls fan
Ant-Man and The Wasp's Hannah John-Kamen has revealed that that she's a huge Spice Girls fan.
The sequel to Peyton Reed's 2015 Ant-Man will feature a new villain in Ghost, who's played by John-Kamen.
In the comics, Ghost is a proficient inventor and hacker who manages to make a suit that grants superhuman abilities such as invisibility and the ability to phase through walls and objects like a... well... ghost.
Ant-Man and the Wasp's version of the supervillain is a bit different in the fact that he is now a she. Hannah John-Kamen recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about what's it's like working on a Marvel movie, and in particular, what's it's like having to spend hours in a tight-fitting suit.
Thankfully, Marvel made sure she was as comfortable and safe as possible. "Marvel makes sure the actors are kept hydrated and cool," said the British actress.
"They had one tube with cold water connected to this crop top. It kind of made my back feel like it was peeing itself."
John-Kamen then went on to discuss Marvel's decision to make Ghost a woman and how she tackled the character.
"I went, 'Well, great,'" she says. "'Let's start from scratch!'"
John-Kamen is no stranger to appearing in sci-fi properties. She's a regular on the Syfy show Killjoy, she was in an episode of Black Mirror, and she was also in Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One, which she described as a very happy shoot.
"We'd sing show tunes in between takes. Singin' in the Rain, Guys and Dolls. It was very fun," she revealed.
Singing is something that's in John-Kamen's bloody. During the interview, she revealed her great love of the Spice Girls.
"The Spice Girls were my life growing up," she stated.
"My birthday was Spice Girls-inspired. I actually got to meet them. That was really wonderful. Each of them are their persona."
It doesn't look like we'll get to see her singing ability in Ant-Man and The Wasp, though.
Ant-Man and The Wasp hits UK cinemas on Friday, August 3.
