Ant McPartlin’s mum Christine Woodhall has reportedly vowed to “sort her son out” following his drink-driving hearing earlier this week.

McPartlin was given a 20-month driving ban and an £86,000 fine after pleading guilty to drink-driving, with which he was charged with by postal requisite on March 21 following a crash last month.

According to The Mirror, McPartlin will turn to his mum, who was in the car with him when he crashed, for support as he recovers.

A source told the publication: “She hopes to be able to see him or speak to him. She was very shocked by the court case.

“It’s been a real wake-up call for everyone. She was not aware of his drinking when he got into the car; she would have said something. But she will help him sort himself out.”

Moments after the hearing at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, McPartlin said in a sombre address that he was "truly sorry" for letting down family, friends and fans.

He was twice the legal limit when he was involved in a collision with two other cars while driving his Mini in Richmond.

The court was told the charge states he had 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.

Speaking on the court steps following sentencing McPartlin said: "I just want to say I'm truly sorry for what happened.

"High standards are expected of me, I expect them of myself. I've let myself down, I let a lot of people down. And for that I am truly sorry.

"I'd like apologise to everybody involved in the crash and I'm just thankful no-one was seriously hurt."

In the wake of the incident, McPartlin stepped down from television commitments for the “foreseeable future” leaving professional partner and best friend Declan Donnelly to present the final two Saturday Night Takeaway shows solo, with Donnelly also set to front the Britain’s Got Talent live shows alone.
