The former marine said: "I don’t watch it. A lot of celebrities ring me and tell me they’ve been asked to do the show but won’t, partly out of loyalty to me and partly because they say, “what would I get out of it?' It’s gone soft."

Middleton was also critical of his replacement on the show Rudy Reyes: “People think you can just put another person in front of the camera, but it’s really hard to deliver and come across as authentic. There’s only one Ant Middleton.”

He also responded to claims that he was a misogynist: “I can accept some things people say about me but I am not misogynistic. My wife was like, ‘If anyone spent five minutes with you, they would know that’s absolutely not right, as you never treat anyone with disrespect'."

Middleton was one of the original cast of SAS: Who Dares Wins before departing last year after it was alleged he made "inappropriate comments" towards female production staff.

At the time, Channel 4 said: "Following a number of discussions Channel 4 and Minnow Films have had with him in relation to his personal conduct it has become clear that our views and values are not aligned and we will not be working with him again."

Middleton has since gone on to work on the Australian version of the show and released numerous books.
