Ant McPartlin has been talking about on the effect his drink-driving incident had on his relationship with Dec Donnelly.

The pair have been TV screen legends for years now, co-presenting shows such as Britain's Got Talent and I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! with their unique best-mates energy.

However, last year's accident – which saw Ant crash his car under the influence and receive an £86,000 fine, plus a 20 month ban – led to the TV presenter stepping away from the spotlight.

Speaking to The Sun, Ant discussed Dec's feelings following the highly-publicised crash.

"He's angry, of course he's angry. But it's justified and I understood it," said Ant. "Underneath all of that is love and still is love. And that's what we talked about more than anything.

"I'm very lucky that I've got an understanding business partner and best friend who said, 'Absolutely, your head is more important than anything.'

"I had to lock myself away."

Meanwhile, Ant returned to his co-presenting duties last week as the Britain's Got Talent auditions kicked off at the London Palladium. Here, he struggled to hold back tears.

Addressing the crowd, he said: "Hello everyone. Oh god, I'm really really emotional now. I've missed you all. As for you [pointing at Dec], I've missed you. Thank you very much, what a warm welcome.

"What a great show to come back to, I'm thrilled, I'm over the moon. Shall we move on before I cry?"
