Ant McPartlin, the man behind the 'Ant' portion of Ant and Dec always manages to scoop up a gong at the National Television Awards. But now, the presenter has lashed out at media following inaccurate claims of a "meltdown" about the show.

Ant recently announced that he's separating from his wife, Lisa Armstrong after 11 years together. The announcement followed the star being plagued with rumours of stress and turmoil since his rehab stint for drug and alcohol issues.

Now the 42-year-old presenter has taken to Twitter to lambast the Daily Star in a sweary and out-of-character tweet from the presenting duo's shared account.

"What a load of sh#t!" he wrote.

Ant followed up that message with another post, confirming he's actually looking forward to tonight's celebrations at The O2 London.

We can hardly blame Ant for looking forward to the event. He and Dec have managed to win the Best TV Presenter award for 16 consecutive years, so it's a safe bet he won't go home empty handed after the ceremony.

Digital Spy will be covering the NTAs live from the red carpet, along with our live events hub, red carpet gallery and live tweets about the show, so make sure you follow along all the biggest moments from the event.

Meanwhile the NTAs stalwart host Dermot O'Leary has finally opened up about that disastrous X Factor fail by Olly Murs when he accidentally tried to send one contestant home too early.

And of course, let's all cross our fingers for a repeat of the greatest NTAs moment of all time, by which we mean the epic hangover both Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield had during the following day's episode of This Morning back in 2016.

The National Television Awards airs from 7.30pm tonight (January 23) live on ITV.
