Anthony Quinlan has admitted he is "really, really happy", as he confirmed his romance with Nikki Sanderson.

The 37-year-old former 'Emmerdale' star has been close pals with the 'Hollyoaks' actress for "years", and the actor has now confessed that the pair are an item after he slid into her DMs on social media.

He told The Sun Online: "I've always fancied her. She's mega hot, right? We've known each other for years,

"There were rumours we met at the gym, which we had a bit of a laugh about.

"I slid into the DMs and that was it. I was lucky enough to get a date and the rest is history."

Anthony - who played Gilly Roach on Channel 4 soap 'Hollyoaks' from 2005 to 2011, and exited just one year before Nikki joined as Maxine Minniver in 2012 – admitted being in the same line of work as his girlfriend has helped their relationship.

He added: "All I can say is I'm really, really happy and she's a very special girl. She's lovely.

"I'm happy that it is what it is and we haven't got everyone prying.

"She's very supportive, in many respects. She gets it because she's an actress and also in terms in the business because she's quite keen into health and fitness.

"She's mega. I can't say anymore - I'm just really happy."

After his stint on 'Oaks' and a spell in 'Doctors', Anthony played Pete Barton in ITV soap 'Emmerdale' from 2013 to 2020.

Before rocking up in the Hollyoaks village, Nikki previously starred as Candice Stowe in 'Coronation Street' from 1995 to 2005.
