It looked like the Strictly ‘curse’ had struck yet again last week when Strictly pro dancer Dianne Buswell confirmed she’d split from her Emmerdale actor boyfriend Anthony Quinlan.
However, Quinlan (Pete Barton on Emmerdale) has slammed these reports and says the break-up has nothing to do with Buswell’s relationship with her Strictly celebrity partner and YouTube star Joe Sugg.
In an interview with the Daily Star the 34-year-old actor said he’s still ‘really good friends’ with Buswell.
“We’re still really good friends – it’s just distance played a part. There were all these rumours about the ‘Strictly’ curse but it wasn’t that,” Quinlan said.
Quinlan lives in Manchester, while Australian born Buswell is based in London.
He even said he was ‘rooting’ for the pair to win this year’s Strictly Come Dancing series.
“I’m actually rooting for Joe and Dianne. They’re doing absolutely amazing in strictly and I still think the world of the girl. ‘We were really close, it just wasn’t meant to be,” he said.
We’re through to week 4!! Thank you so much for all your votes and support. This is honestly such an amazing journey/experience and I’m loving every second of it! Can’t wait to get cracking on the next dance and to hopefully impress you all once again 🤞🏼🙌🏼 @bbcstrictly #teamjoanne #joanne

The rumours of the curse emerged after Buswell confirmed the split, and both Sugg and Buswell’s Instagram accounts showed the pair appearing to be getting along extremely well.
Meanwhile, the most obvious ‘Strictly curse’ example of the series has of course been Katya Jones and Seann Walsh’s kissing scandal.
The pair remain on Strictly despite being caught kissing in Marylebone London – and each at the time having significant others.
Strictly continues at 6.50pm on Saturday on BBC One.
