A woman in Lancashire, England, weary of plastic stuff released a video showing how to easily craft pretty clay star ornaments for your Christmas tree.
DIY enthusiast Kate Jones frequently shares eco-advice and how-to videos on her Instagram account @my plastic free home. One of her most recent videos demonstrates how to make your own white clay Christmas tree decorations.
To make these star-shaped ornaments, Jones mixes a half a cup of corn flour, one cup of baking soda, and three-fourths a cup of water. She heats the mixture on a stovetop until it’s the consistency of mashed potatoes, then lets it cool. She then rolls out the clay until it’s about a quarter-inch thick (5 mm), then cuts out the holiday-themed shapes and pokes a hole in each with a skewer. The penultimate step is to bake the stars in a 275-degree (140 Celsius) oven for 20 minutes, turning halfway
She then adds some thread to hang the merry homemade decorations on her tree. Credit: Kate Jones via Storyful
