Anti-Trump protesters plan to flood London for his state visit

Anti-Donald Trump campaigners have promised to flood London during his expected first full state visit to the UK in early June.

It is thought he will travel to London just before he heads to France to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

Demonstrators today began coordinating a mass demonstration against the US president, who has been criticised heavily for his approach to immigration and climate change.

During his two-day working trip to the UK in 2018 more than 250,000 protesters took to the streets.

Shaista Aziz, from the Stop Trump coalition, said: “It is time for everyone who opposes this politics of hate and bigotry to stand up and be counted.”

Demonstrators are also likely to be joined by Extinction Rebellion protesters. Jayne Forbes, an activist for Extinction Rebellion, said the Mall seemed the “obvious spot” to gather.

“We may be there to try to engage him in understanding that climate change is an emergency and the US is one of the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases in the world. He has a duty to act. He needs to be aware of what’s happening in his own country,” she said.

Leo Murray, the activist behind the Trump baby blimp which flew over Parliament Square last summer, said: “We’re quite sure that all British people of good will are going to be ready to run Trump out of town for a second time.”

He said he expected the Mall to be heavily guarded by the police with metal barriers put up along the route.

He added: “He’ll get the Chinese president treatment, with metal barricades between him and the people.”
