Antonio Rudiger warns Chelsea over title ambitions: 'We don’t need to look at Manchester City and Liverpool'

Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger admits the club can forget about competing with Manchester City and Liverpool in the title race if they keep dropping crucial points.

Sunday's goalless stalemate with Everton saw Maurizio Sarri’s side draw for the third time at Stamford Bridge in their last four Premier League outings to lose ground on the two clubs above them.

Manchester City are four points ahead of them after defeating Manchester United, while Liverpool moved two clear following a win against Fulham.

Chelsea struggled to break down Everton, particularly in the first half when they had just one shot on target. Rudiger was furious about the display and said: “I don’t feel happy because I wanted to win this game.

“There was a game on last night [City v United] that’s maybe important to us. But we failed to do our own job.

“If we don’t win these kind of games, we don’t need to look at City and Liverpool. Do we need to improve on getting three draws at home out of four? That’s clear.

“We had a lot of chances we missed. But we were unlucky. We didn’t see much from Everton up front. It was more a game to be decided by one goal. They had some counter-attacks, but I never thought they would score.”

Rudiger is worried about Chelsea making the same mistakes as last term, when a number of disappointing results cost them a place in the top four.

He said: “Last season, we dropped a lot of points and we were thinking ‘Oh! if we [had done this], if we [had done that]’ but this doesn’t count. The thing is we failed against Everton.”
