Anyone driving in Midlands city warned they're losing two and a half days a year
New research has revealed the area of the Midlands where drivers are most likely to be stuck in traffic. The finding has been uncovered by the temporary car insurance website Tempcover.
Birmingham was named the fifth worst place for time lost stuck in traffic in the UK. During 12 months, drivers lose an average of 60 hours stuck in queues - equal to two and a half days.
It will come as no surprise to see England's second city ranked so high, given congestion here is a regular problem. The city has some of the busiest roads, including the Aston Expressway and the M6.

No other West Midlands city featured on the list. But in comparison, Telford, located in nearby Shropshire, was named the least likely place to be stuck in traffic in the region.
Here motorists lose an average of 28 hours stuck in traffic, the second lowest rate in the country. Jake Lambert, a temporary car insurance expert at Tempcover, said: "Spending hours stuck in traffic can lead to driver fatigue and reduced concentration.
"Temporary car insurance offers a practical solution, giving drivers the flexibility to car share and let someone else take the wheel. This helps lighten the load and reduce stress, particularly when facing unexpected congestion.
"Adding a trusted friend or family member as a legal driver through temporary car insurance doesn’t just take the pressure off, it also contributes to fewer cars on the road. Whether it’s sharing a long drive with a sibling or stopping safely to swap seats with a friend, it’s a practical way to make travel less stressful and ensure a safer journey to your destination."
