Rami Malek has revealed how he captured Freddie Mercury's unpredictable energy for Bohemian Rhapsody.

The actor starred in the Golden Globe-nominated biopic charting the life of the late Queen singer.

And, speaking recently, Malek revealed he met Freddie's pals Bono, Sting and Boy George to learn more about him – as well as watching archive footage of the singer – before eventually deciding that the perfect way to embody his "unpredictable" energy was to be unpredictable in his movements on camera.

We mean, it makes sense.

"Day in, day out was like back to acting school," he told Page Six.

"Four hours of movement, two of piano, two singing, then home watching archival footage and dancing alone in my flat.

"Trying to be as unpredictable and spontaneous as Freddie Mercury was, I never let the camera know where I was going. I felt everyone could play catch-up to this character's moves."

Despite some lukewarm early reviews, Bohemian Rhapsody was a box office success and recently scored a nomination for 'Best Motion Picture – Drama' at this year's Golden Globes.

It will face off against Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, If Beale Street Could Talk and A Star Is Born.

Bohemian Rhapsody is in cinemas now.
