Hugo Lloris is proud of Tottenham's performance as Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu.

A Rafael Varane own goal, under pressure from Harry Kane, was cancelled out by Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty in the first half and both teams were denied winners after the break.

Lloris stopped a point-blank Karim Benzema effort before Keylor Navas's fingertips pushed a Kane one-on-one around the post.

The Spurs captain feels a share of the spoils was a fair reflection of the game, telling BT Sport: "I think we were better in first half than second half, they pushed to the end, but we had good chances to score.

"It was a good draw."

He added: "I was a bit surprised [the penalty was awarded] but we have to trust the referee. But we stayed strong and they put on a lot of pressure, we could have faded. We deserve this point."

Tottenham and Real Madrid are now level on points, goals scored and goals conceded at the midway point of the Champions League group stage.

Los Blancos travel to Wembley in two weeks' time.
