'Egg Boy' will donate $50,000 in donations from fan base to Christchurch victims

A 17-year-old, who was dubbed “Egg boy” after smashing an egg over Senator Fraser Anning's head says he will donate money raised from fans to Christchurch victims.

Will Connolly, from Victoria, has been inundated with support after the politician responded by hitting the teenager at a Conservative National Party meeting in Melbourne, Australia.

He egged Mr Anning and was arrested the day after the senator had released a statement blaming Muslim immigration for the terror attack, which killed 50 people at mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand on Friday.

Since footage of the incident went viral, Connolly has been hailed as a hero with murals created in his honour in the city’s famous graffiti scene.

Fans set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for the teenager’s legal fees and “to buy more eggs.”

The teenager’s parents told 9news that their son has been left shaken by his sudden rise to fame and his social media accounts have been silenced.

In an update, the page announced that he plans to send the majority of the money to Christchurch victims.

In two days, more than 2,500 people have raised $51,305, after the goal was raised due to the page’s growing popularity.

“EggBoi (Will) plans to send a majority of the money to the victims of the Christchurch terrorist attack,” the page says. “I will keep you all updated over the next few days.”

The page says: “Our hero EggBoi takes on Fraser Anning, the senator for Queensland that is now despised around the world for comments made after the shooting at a New Zealand mosque.”

Despite backlash, Mr Anning has refused to apologise for his comments, and told reporters on Monday that Mr Connolly, “got a slap across the face, which is what his mother should have given him.”

“When somebody cracks you in the back of your head, you react and defend yourself.

“That for years is what Australians have been doing. Luckily they did that in the trenches otherwise we’d be all speaking German now.”

Adam Houda, a high profile criminal lawyer wrote on Twitter that Mr Anning’s claims of self defence would not stand up in court.

He wrote: “I’ve just seen the footage of the #FraserAnning egging. Anning reacts by assaulting the young man. “

Mr Houda said that police were now obligated to charge the senator.
