Mark Noble acknowledges West Ham's need to improve their squad but he bemoaned the ever-increasing demands of the transfer window.

Slaven Bilic has recruited just Pablo Zabaleta thus far, a free signing from Manchester City, but have seen two players leave this week in Havard Nordtveit and Reece Oxford, the latter on loan.

After a disappointing first season at the London Stadium, Noble knows the Hammers must improve in the face of vast sums flying around but does not doubt the effort of those tiring.

"I think we need to get a few in," he told Sky Sports. "I'm sure the chairman is working tirelessly to get them in but this market is so hard.

"Players are so expensive now and you get priced out. We're competing with so many other teams to get the players we want."

Zabaleta has signed a two-year contract after calling time on a nine-year spell with City and Noble is looking forward to seeing what the two-time Premier League winner has to offer.

He added: "He's an all-round good fella. It's going to be a change for him because he's used to having the ball for 70 or 80 per cent of the game.

"I've spoken to him on text already and he's really keen to meet the lads in pre-season."
