'Flatulent passenger forces plane to land with police called to remove four fliers after row erupts on board'

A plane was forced to make an unscheduled landing after a row broke out on board when a passenger refused to stop passing wind.

Two Dutchmen sitting next to a flatulent traveller reportedly asked the man to stop breaking wind on the Transavia Airlines flight from Dubai to Amsterdam, Dutch media reported.

When he refused, airline staff allegedly failed to fully resolve passengers' complaints, sparking a row.

According to De Telegraaf, a row then erupted between the three men, forcing the pilot to perform an unscheduled landing at Vienna Airport.

Police reportedly removed two men and two women from the plane, the newspaper reported.

The women, who are believed to be sisters, described the removal as “humiliating” and denied any involvement in the fight.

One told De Telegraaf: “We had no idea who these boys were, we just had the bad luck to be in the same row and we didn’t do anything.”

All four passengers were released without charge but were banned from flying with Transavia.

The passenger suffering from wind was allowed to stay on board, it was reported.

A spokeswoman for the airline told De Telegraaf: “That is unacceptable. Our crew must ensure a safe flight. When passengers pose risks, they immediately intervene.

"Our people are trained for that. They know very well where the boundaries are. Transavia is therefore square behind the cabin crew and the pilots.”
