'Magic broken' - How the Spanish press reacted to La Roja's defeat to England

The Spanish media have reacted with a mixture of surprise and disappointment after last night’s surprise 3-2 loss to England in Seville.

‘They caught us whistling’, was Marca’s headline this morning, in reference to the jeers from fans to the English national anthem and also the poor performance of their team.

Sport’s front page said ‘Magic broken’, while inside it stuck to that theme following Luis Enrique’s first defeat as coach.

‘Penalty!’ screamed AS as it focused on the decision not to award a spot-kick when England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford held back Rodrigo Moreno.

‘Triumphalism also kills’, it noted inside, hinting at possible over- confidence in last night’s match. ‘A bad start condemns Spain’, said Diario de Sevilla, while ABC’s headline read ‘Spain get up late’.

With UEFA Nations League group A4 now wide open, Marca looked ahead to their next match, saying ‘All or nothing against Croatia’.
