Fitness has taken a new sleepy turn - the latest trend to hit London is 'napercise'. It's time to ditch your usual afternoons of intense HIIT training for a refreshing snooze session.

Enter the David Lloyd gym in Sidcup which is putting on 60 minute classes where participants enjoy 45 minutes of uninterrupted napping - there will be a single bed, duvet and eye mask waiting for you - and 15 minutes of relaxing stretching.

Nowadays getting a good night's sleep is practically unheard of - a new study found that 86 per cent suffer with fatigue and 26 per cent sleep less than 5 hours a night. Eight hours of uninterrupted sleep is seen as an impossible task, especially for new parents.

But regular nights of poor sleep could lead to significant health issues like diabetes, obesity and fatigue.

The aim of David Lloyd's class is to rectify poor sleeping habits to reduce sleep levels - not to mention the few calories you burn will snoozing. The studio will be set an optimum temperature with calming music in the background.

A spokesperson for the club said: "Filling an exercise studio with beds might look unusual, but if it proves to be a success, we’re definitely excited at the possibility of rolling out the programme to more of our clubs down the line.”

You can try out Napercise at David Lloyd in Sidcup on Saturday April 29 and Sunday April 30. Find out more here.
