It's official! Love Island pen salesman Jack asks Dani to be his girlfriend - but is it bad news for Dr Alex and Ellie?

There’s been so much drama over the last few weeks that we’d almost forgotten that the point of shoving all these ridiculously good looking singletons in a fancy villa in Spain isn’t just to watch them all break each other mentally for our amusement.

They’re actually there to find love too, and it’s as if they’ve all suddenly just remembered.

Through the tears, tantrums and Adam’s ability to render any woman’s common sense and self respect useless over the past few weeks, Dani and Jack have remained the one glimmer of hope to the other islanders - an adorable reminder that finding love on a TV show is possible.

Okay, so “love” may be a strong word to use at least for now, but watching Jack grapple with himself about how to ask Dani to be his girlfriend made it pretty obvious that that’s where these two lovebirds are headed.

After lawyer Rosie’s unceremonious dumping, it reminded Jack how smitten he is with Dani, so he decided to approach Adam and Eyal for advice about how to ask her to be his girlfriend.

Side-note: imagine being so worried about losing someone that you go to Eyal of all people for advice. Seriously. This dude really must be in love.

Surprisingly, instead of reading his palm and telling him to chant at the moon through his third eye, Eyal’s advice was - dare we say it - actually pretty sensible.

“You go with your gut and your heart and what you feel is right,” he said.

Apparently pigs do fly in Spain.

What’s been so fascinating to watch through the series has been the way it’s turned age old stereotypes upside down. We’ve seen Eyal, Wes, Jack and Alex all fall quickly for women who in varying degrees have essentially all said “slow down mate”.

It’s almost as if the concept of women falling at the feet of any man with a beard and a pulse is just a tired misogynistic stereotype that Hollywood has perpetuated for decades.

Straight men up and down the country have been left dazed and confused.

But would Dani finally give into her feelings and take the next step? It turned out her relationship with another man in her life has been getting in the way.

No, Dani hasn’t been pulling an Adam all this time - instead she’s been worried about what her famous dad might think about them spending less time together.

But it’s alright, because it turns out Jack doesn’t like sushi, so she can still do that with her dad.

“I hope my dad’s happy,” he said. “Me and my dad, we’re still going to go for sushi and that. Because Jack doesn’t like that. My dad’s got my first place in my heart. And Jack can have the second.”

Anyone who didn’t audibly “aww” at that is dead inside. No seriously, go get yourself checked before Theresa May completely dismantles the NHS.

But in all seriousness, Dani really may be the most wholesome character we’ve seen on reality television in years. So even though you’ve got Albert square’s hard man to deal with if you break Dani’s heart Jack, you’ll also have us and the rest of the British public to answer to.

No pressure, hun.

“You mean more to me now," he gushed. "Before I knew I really liked you, but this time it’s different. I told you, I’ve really got feelings for you. Honestly, I meant it. I mean it. I really do feel like it’s the start of something with us two."

Elsewhere on the island, Georgia ended up breaking down in tears over her relationship with Josh. We get it though, if we were dating someone with that many abs we’d probably cry too.

Happy tears, mind.

After days of keeping him at arms length to protect her heart, Georgia had grown concerned that she might push Josh into the arms of another woman.

Thankfully her fears were unfounded, and Josh shared his excitement about Georgia finally showing she might be falling for him.

“She fancies me a little bit and I think I was very, very happy to hear it,” he said. “And I hope every single day we move forward and push forward and we do grow as a couple. Right now I do feel like we are a couple.”

With all this love in the air, the icing on the cake was seeing Samira finally get some action after being treated like a leper by practically every man who's walked through the door since Day One.

After weeks of being left chained to the almost unbearably inoffensive Alex, Sam has swooped in and appears to be keen to give the West End star her happy ending.

But speaking of the villa's resident doctor, his date with Ellie blessed us with the show's comedy highlight of the week.

After Alex said he would find it really hard to put one of his pets down, Ellie chimed back: "Yeah, but you put people down that's worse innit!"

"You can't euthanise people, you'll go to jail" laughed Alex, before tapping her on the nose and adding: "You're so cute".

This is one of those moments where if we were in The Office we'd be looking directly at the camera and shaking our head.

Love Island is on ITV2, Monday at 9pm
