Whether it's his unique gift of getting complete and utter nutters to open up to him, or the fact that he once nonchalantly starred in a porn film for the sake of factual entertainment, let's face it, the national treasure that is Louis Theroux brings a whole new level to documentary genius.

Anyway, since Theresa May delivered a live TV statement yesterday (April 18) to call for a snap General Election, and MPs voted 522 to 13 today (April 19) in favour of holding that election on June 8, people have been petitioning for Louis Theroux to become the next prime minister.

The statement on change.org reads: "Since the EU referendum in Britain, politicians, experts and those with the country in their hands have failed to show they are capable of leading the nation during this complex time.

"We call on the government to accept that the only right thing to do is appoint presenter, documentary maker and national treasure Louis Theroux as the next prime minister.

"As one of the most understanding, smart and trusted men in the UK, Mr Theroux (probably) has more skills to work out what is best for post-Brexit Britain than May, Farage and Corbyn combined.

"And if he fails, at least he can make a bloody good film about it (or become leader of the opposition and fire some pretty great questions around the Houses of Parliament)."

Supporters of the British-American filmmaker have also taken to Twitter using the hashtag #LouisForPM.

One fan wrote: "Can @louistheroux please run? No doubt he'd win by a mile. #LouisForPM #GeneralElection #NationalTreasure", while another simply added: "Louis Theroux for Prime Minister!"

And we know who we'd want as his chief adviser - Brenda from Bristol, obviously.
