Our excitement for Supergirl's season finale is building faster than you can say 'Kryptonite', so this first look at Supergirl and Superman has got us feeling very confused.

We knew Tyler Hoechlin would be reprising his role as Superman for season 2's final episode, but we didn't think the two would be reunited in such an explosive way...

Storyline details on Clark's return to National City are being kept under wraps for the moment, but you know things must be getting serious for Kara to call in for back-up.

And that might be because one of DC's most iconic villains is about to arrive on the scene – yep, we're talking about none other than General Zod.

Just last week we learned that Mark Gibbon had been signed on for the finale to play the fearsome Kryptonian, and it sounds like he might be sticking around for a while.

General Zod's henchman Non has already appeared in the series, played by Chris Vance, so we reckon there's scope for the show to build on their relationship in future seasons.

Also returning for Supergirl's season 2 finale is Calista Flockhart, who'll be back from her leave of absence as Cat Grant, the mentor to Melissa Benoist's Supergirl.

Supergirl season two is set to conclude on May 22 on The CW in the United States. Sky airs the show in the UK.
