Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall has opened up about being a grandmother for a new ITV documentary, airing Monday evening.

Camilla, who married Prince Charles in 2005, gushed over her five grandchildren, revealing sweetly that the younger ones even wave at the television when she’s on screen.

And asked what it’s like to be a grandmother, Camilla answered that it was “wonderful”.

The Duchess of Cornwall said: “It’s very nice because you haven’t got the full responsibility.

“You can give them a wonderful time, spoil them, give them all the things their parents won’t allow them to have and then give them back again.”

The documentary followed and filmed Camilla in 2017 as she celebrated her 70th birthday, encompassing moments such as Christmas, royal tea parties and walks in Scotland with her beloved Jack Russell terriers.

Camilla is grandmother to twins Gus and Louis as well as Eliza born to her daughter Laura and Lola and Freddy to her son Tom Parker-Bowles.

Also in the documentary, The Duchess of Cornwall meets pensioners Alice, Mary and George for tea to hear about their ordeal of being attacked in their home.

The programme, which occupies the 9pm slot, is narrated by Amanda Redman.

The broadcast coincidentally coincides with the birth of Prince William and The Duchess of Cambridge’s third child.

The Real Camilla: HRH The Duchess of Cornwall airs Monday 23 April at 9pm on ITV, available shortly after on ITV Hub.
