This summer may be all about superhero blockbusters, but something sinister is on the horizon – the prequel to the classic horror movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, titled Leatherface.

The upcoming film has been directed by Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the guys who brought us Inside, and that news alone got us excited.

But now the red band trailer has dropped, and we're even more hyped:

The trailer has got everything you could want from a horror: creepy singing, buckets of blood, people looking shit-scared and... is that a chainsaw flying across the floor on its own at the 1 minute, 26 seconds mark? We think it is.

The plot of the movie follows a group of disturbed teenagers who escape a mental institution and take a kidnapped nurse with them.

Stephen Dorff and Lili Taylor lead the cast as Texas Ranger Hal Hartman and Leatherface's mother Verna Sawyer respectively.

Meanwhile, the young version of Leatherface will be played by Sam Strike, who was the original actor for Johnny Carter (the son of Danny Dyer's character Mick) in EastEnders.

Actors Vanessa Grasse, James Bloor, Jessica Madsen and Sam Coleman round out the cast.

The latest film in the franchise, Texas Chainsaw 3D, was released four years ago and made nearly $50 million on a $15 million budget.

Leatherface will be released on DirecTV on September 21. A limited theatrical run and digital release follow on October 20.
