Following the release of hundreds of beta versions in the past few months, Apple has finally released iOS 10.3 to iPhone, iPod and iPad users.
Among a host of new additions, including the Find My AirPods feature and daily curated playlists in Apple Music, is one that makes a dramatic difference in speed – the Apple File System.
This nifty feature not only saves storage space, but is also optimised for devices that use solid-state and flash drives – so while the same software will be running on your phone, you'll have a lot more space to work with.
The implementation detail replaces HFS, which has been around since 1998, to try and keep up with today's demands of modern technology.
Along with the addition of APFS, some minor adjustments have been made to animations – which are hardly noticeable, but make a significant change in speed.
So if you think your phone is running quite slow, then it's time to install the update.
It might take a while to download – sometimes up to 50 minutes, but it's worth it.
