Fired The Apprentice candidate Frank Brooks has slated project manager Tom Bunday after Team Collaborative failed as he admits he “could have tried harder” in the boardroom.

Lord Sugar gave marketing manager Brooks after he failed to show off his business brain for the second week in a row during the ill-fated doughnut task.

But Brooks, 27, made it clear that he feels Bunday should have been the one to go after “wasting time” during the task by being “over-diplomatic” with his leadership approach.

Speaking to Standard Online, he said: “Tom’s a lovely guy, no bad blood between us but trying to be overly-diplomatic wasted too much time.

“We needed somebody who would be like ‘this is what you need to do’ and do it to the best of our ability. Yet we got ‘are you happy with that? Do you want to do that?’ and, ultimately, every time was taking time off making doughnuts which was what the task was all about.”

And Brooks admitted that he should have fought a bit harder to stay in the competition when it came to crunch time in the boardroom, during which Lord Sugar branded him “emotional” and “snappy”.

Brooks said: “Generally I don’t have any regrets – I’m so proud to have been a part of this series.

“In that last boardroom, I could have fought my corner a bit more but when you are there you aren’t sure how it’s going to be perceived.

“That’s maybe why I was brought back in and maybe why I was fired.”

The third casualty of the boardroom also gave an insight into the house as he revealed that “what happened at work stayed at work”.

He said: “Early on we decided that what happens on the tasks, happens on the tasks. We don’t want to bring our work home with us.

“It was actually quite good to get to know each other on a deeper level. Yes, we all wanted the investment but we all wanted to enjoy the process. We played jokes on each other and had a laugh.”

Next week, the remaining candidates will take on a show first as they head to Birmingham to sell products at a Bodybuilding convention.

The Apprentice continues Wednesday October 24 at 9pm on BBC One.
