'Apprentice' candidates seem to have designed an 'exploding toaster' in first look at tonight's episode

Watch: Apprentice candidates design 'exploding toaster' in first look at tonight's episode

The Apprentice candidates suffer a design nightmare in tonight's episode when they are briefed to create a pod car...but accidentally draw up plans for an "exploding toaster" instead.

In a clip released ahead of tonight's BBC One episode, contestants Kathryn Louise Burn and Akshay Thakrar are shown designing a party pod car called Starpod, but the logo goes awry when Burn asks the designer for a "nicer star" on the side of the car and Thakrar pushes for a picture of an explosion instead.

Despite Burn arguing a number of times that the "star" is in fact an explosion, Thakrar manages to convince her that "it's not an explosion, it's a party" – much to aide Karren Brady's distaste.

Brady says: "Their logo design is a star with a pod on it, but actually, what they've put together looks like a toaster that's exploding."

Meanwhile, Brittany Carter and Aaron Willis are having a frustrating time catching up with team members Akeem Bundu-Kamara and Harpreet Kaur.

Carter and Willis call their teammates to find out how a meeting with a potential client went, but are left with next to no information.

Carter asks: "How much are they willing to spend per vehicle?"

But Bundu-Kamara replies: "That's information that we didn't actually acquire during the call."

When Carter presses him on how many vehicles the client would order, he adds: "We didn't acquire the information either about the number of units that they want."

He and Kaur are also only able to tell Carter and Willis that the logo should look "modern", which Carter complains is "not much to go on".

It looks as though the candidates will be gearing up for another boardroom battle as Lord Sugar rates and slates their efforts in the pod car task and fires yet another potential business partner.

The Apprentice airs tonight (Thursday) at 9pm on BBC One.
