The Apprentice finally returned to our screens last night (October 4), giving us a whole new slate of egomaniacal candidates to love and loathe in equal measure.

However, amid the chaos of trying to sell burgers and facing the wrath of Lord Sugar for the first time, there was one talking point on viewers' lips.

Quite a few of this year's contestants opted for very eccentric eyewear, notably Michaela Wain, Charles Burns and Elizabeth McKenna – and their choices of glasses did not go unnoticed by fans.

Michaela's rather '80s look led some to suggest that she was actually an undercover agent, one person writing: "Michaela is definitely Melania in disguise (behind the glasses)."

Meanwhile, Elizabeth got compared to Olive from On the Buses, someone joking rather unkindly that they have "a lot in common".

Others were generally not fans, with one viewer tweeting: "These three deserved to be fired for their glasses alone."

Another compared Charles' eyewear to the giant glasses you wear at the opticians, joking: "Didn't know you can actually buy the glasses the optician puts on you to do your eye test."

And the rest weren't too complimentary either:
