If there's one thing worse than Lord Sugar's attempts at being punny on The Apprentice, it's the dreaded interview round.

And, as ever, the interviews in last night's (December 12) episode delivered in their usual savage fashion. Business plans? Torn apart. Candidates' confidence? Shattered. Their hopes and dreams? Left for dead.

After failing to impress Claude Littner, Claudine Collins, Linda Plant and Mike Soutar with his 'Hangover Killer', Daniel Elahi was one of the hopefuls whisked away in the back of a taxi.

He has absolutely no idea why, though.

Speaking to Metro following his exit, Daniel admitted that he was "struggling to see where it went wrong", and also accused the show of "clever" editing.

After being exposed for backtracking on his (kind of false) claims that he had sold more than one million units of his product, Daniel argued that it wasn't a "cover-up".

"It genuinely wasn't a cover-up," he explained. "There were a few people who worked on my business, it wasn't just myself.

"There were Amazon, eBay pages which were created years ago. Ultimately I would have had to sign everything off but in that moment in time it would have been impossible to say that was definitively me."

Defending his right to "embellish" his business figures, Daniel added that his business plan "ticked all" of Lord Sugar's boxes.

"It was profitable, it was scalable, high margins, gender neutral, had employable reach," he said, later adding: "[But] the interviewers are there to do a job.

"They edited it in a very clever way so that there was some way the public will get some satisfaction."

Mind you, fans of The Apprentice need all the satisfaction they can get – especially after the Beeb's unpopular decision to push back yesterday's episode in favour of covering a certain political carry-on.

(*Insert 'You're fired' joke here*...)
