'New approach' to Leicester Christmas events this year - city council wants your feedback
The city council has told Leicestershire Live it is trying a "new approach" to Christmas celebrations this year, and will be collecting feedback from residents and visitors to help it decide what to do next year. The news came after we asked the city council why it was not hosting Santa in the Square this season.
Included in the new approach are the Christmas market in Gallowtree Gate, and colourful new festive lighting in Town Hall Square, the spokesperson said. Despite the Santa in the Square event not taking place, there would be other opportunities to see him, they added.
Santa can be visited for free at Highcross Shopping Centre, where he will be in his grotto every weekend throughout December, as well as on Monday, December 23, the council spokesperson said. Here are other locations where people - and pups - can see Santa this year.

Santa will also be in his grotto at the city's Haymarket centre on Saturday, December 7, where visits will also be free of charge, they added.
The spokesperson said: “In our neighbourhoods, several of our children’s centres and community centres will have free grottos, including the Brite centre. Eyres Monsell Community Centre, and Braunstone and New Parks children’s centres.
“Along with the return of the ice rink, big wheel and the Enlightened Christmas lights trail on Abbey Park, there will be something for everyone this Christmas in Leicester.”
