We don't actually know what Zack Snyder's Justice League would've looked like in full, but we can hazard a guess based on Batman v Superman.

So, if we had to sum up Snyder's take on the DCEU, we'd probably go with 'gritty'.

Although 'gritty' might sound good on paper – hey, it worked for The Dark Knight trilogy – that didn't translate to critical success, so we're relieved to hear that James Wan's DC debut in Aquaman is going to be different to what we've seen before.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Warner Bros' film chairman Toby Emmerich promised that Aquaman is going to be "fresh and different" – and "badass", too.

Name-checking James Wan and Aquaman himself Jason Momoa, Emmerich continued: "They brought themselves to the party. They very instinctively were who they were when making this movie. And that comes through in the tone of this movie.

"I don't think it was a reaction to what had come before. I think it was them being true to themselves."

Predicting an unprecedented response to the film (all things considered), he added: "I have two girls, 10 and 14, and they're so quick to tell me what movies are going to bomb..."

And their all-important verdict on Aquaman? "They're so excited."

Aquaman will be released in cinemas on December 14, and its first trailer is expected to come very soon.
