Set in a universe established by the League of Legends video game, Arcane serves as a prequel and — a as the show’s logline states — “dives into the delicate balance between the rich city of Piltover and the seedy underbelly of Zaun.”
It continues: “Tensions between these city-states boil over with the creation of hextech — a way for any person to control magical energy — in Piltover; and in Zaun, a new drug called shimmer transforms humans into monsters… The rivalry between the cities splits families and friends as Arcane brings life to the relationships that shape some of League of Legends’ famous champions including Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, Jayce and Viktor.”
The cast includes Yellowjackets‘ Ella Purnell (who voices Jinx), Hawkeye‘s Hailee Steinfeld (Vi) and Harry Potter‘s Katie Leung (Caitlyn Kiramman), all of whom will return for Season 2. Additional voice cast members, as well as other details including exact premiere date, will be announced at a later time.
Arcane Season 1 took home four Emmys, including Outstanding Animated Program.
