Aberdeen-based children’s charity, The Archie Foundation, has reported a record-breaking year, raising over £2million in 2024 to support babies, children and their families across the north-east.

The milestone marks a 22% increase in fundraising compared to 2023 and comes as the charity prepares to celebrate its silver anniversary in 2025.

In its annual report, The Archie Foundation revealed that it provided direct support to 3,341 children and babies, a 15% rise from the previous year.

Additionally, the charity supported more than 50,000 children indirectly through its work at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, Tayside Children’s Hospital in Dundee and Highland Children’s Unit at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Paula Cormack, Chief Executive of The Archie Foundation, expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from the community.

She said: "On behalf of all babies, children, and families, who have benefitted this year, I’d like to thank everyone who has supported Archie. The support throughout 2024 has been outstanding, and we are extremely grateful."

The charity’s services included providing 4,130 nights of accommodation for 1,205 parents, enabling them to stay close to their hospitalised children.

It also marked 15 years of Archie’s Child Bereavement Service (ACBS) which delivered tailored support to 488 bereaved children and distributed 1,152 specialist books.

This year, ACBS has expanded its reach to Tayside and the Highlands, ensuring wider access to vital services.

The Archie Foundation oversaw 16 hospital enhancement projects, launched a new website for the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, and approved 433 funding applications totalling over £600,000.

These grants supported medical equipment, rehabilitation resources and travel costs for families.

Fundraising initiatives ranged from ultra-marathons and skydives to community-led events like their Flagship battle of the badges and the Archie Variety Show, which was held at Aberdeen’s Tivoli Theatre.

The charity also continues its campaign to ‘deliver the difference’ at the new Baird Family Hospital, set to open in late 2025.

As The Archie Foundation looks forward to its 25th anniversary, it is recruiting for three new roles to further its mission.
