Archie Lyndhurst death: CBBC star and son of Only Fools and Horses actor Nicholas Lyndhurst dies aged 19

The son of Only Fools and Horses star Nicholas Lyndhurst has died aged 19.

Archie Lyndhurst, a CBeebies actor, is said to have died after a short illness.

He was known for playing Ollie Coulton in the comedy show So Awkward. Nicholas appeared alongside his son in a 2019 episode of the programme.

Tributes have poured in for the teenager, who followed his father - who played Rodney Trotter in the much-loved British sitcom - into the world of acting.

He appeared in Jack Whitehall’s Bad Education series and voiced a character in the video game Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, before his breakthrough role in So Awkward.

It is understood that his death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious. Met Police have been contacted for comment.

Archie's co-star Samuel Small said his "heart aches all day and every day".

His mother Lucy, a former ballet dancer who has been married to Nicholas for 21 years, replied to post and said: "He will love you and watch over you forever."

Small continued: "You still had so much life to live and I’d give anything for you to keep on living it.

"I just wish I could talk to you just one more time so you could know how much I loved you."

He added: "I’ve never met someone so full of life and had touched so many peoples hearts.... Archie was there for me in my lowest lows but my highest highs were with him.

"Archie’s my best friend and to say goodbye so soon is absolutely devastating, but his calling was obviously somewhere else and I hope he is brightening up wherever he is."

CBBC head of content Cheryl Taylor said: "All of us at BBC Children's are devastated.

"He will be greatly missed by us all and our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends at this time."

The production company who make CBBC show So Awkward also released a statement.

Channel X North said: "We are deeply shocked and saddened to hear the news about our friend Archie.

"He was an incredibly talented performer and his contribution to So Awkward, on and off-screen, will not be forgotten.

"As well as hilarious, he was a generous, kind-hearted young man who we had the honour to work with on the show for seven years. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.”

Co-star Sophia Dallaglio added: "You were one of the funniest, most aspirational people I’ve ever met, but also the cringiest and most irritating, and that’s precisely why I love you.

"I pray that I will always remember the sound of your voice, your laugh, your smile. I’m so thankful that I have nothing but happy memories of us to look back on. You were the light in the room, even on a bad day, and brought all of us together. It’s true, things won’t be the same without you, but while you were here you did nothing but your best to make people happy."

The teenager's breakout role came on the CBBC show So Awkward and he went on to take parts in Bad Education - as a child version of Jack Whitehall's character - and was a guest lead in Casualty.

Archie also gave his voice to video game Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward in 2015.

West London Coroners Court confirmed they are looking into the circumstances surrounding the Actor's death.

A spokeswoman said: "I can confirm the investigation is ongoing and no date has been fixed for the opening of an inquest."

Nicholas Lyndhurst's representatives have been contacted for comment.
