Ariana Grande on course for fourth UK number one with 7 Rings

Ariana Grande is on track to score her fourth UK number one with new track 7 Rings just days after its release.

Grande dropped her latest song, complete with its very pink video, as the clock struck midnight on Friday and it proved an immediate hit with fans .

7 Rings, which samples the famous Sound of Music song Favourite Things, has already made it to the top of the charts at the halfway point, amassing 5.8million streams since its release.

According to the Official Charts Company, the song (below, contains strong language) is over 24,000 chart sales ahead of second place Sweet But Psycho by Ava Max.

If the song stays on course for the top spot, it will be Grande’s fourth UK number one and looking to emulate the success of Thank U, Next.

The break-up anthem, in which Grande references numerous past relationships, spent six weeks at number one and has been in the top 10 for the 11 weeks since it was released.

US singer Max is in line to finish the week at number two with her breakout single, ahead of Sam Smith and Normani's Dancing With A Stranger at number three, Calvin Harris and Rag'n'Bone Man's Giant at four and Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson's Nothing Breaks Like A Heart in fifth.

On the albums chart, the soundtrack for The Greatest Showman is on course to hold on to the number one spot for the 28th non-consecutive week.

The cast recording will match the success of the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, which has spent a total of 28 weeks at the top of the charts since its release in 1967.

The Greatest Showman's closest competitor this week is new entry Please Remain Seated by Thunder, in at number two.

However, the British rock band's reimagined collection of classic songs is only 14 combined sales ahead of the mid-week number three.

Independent singer-songwriter Dodie is set to land a top five accolade with her new EP Human, which is biting at the heels of Thunder's record, according to the Official Charts Company.

George Ezra's Staying At Tamara's is at number four at the halfway stage of the week, with Scottish indie rockers The Twilight Sad rounding off the top five with new entry It Won't Be Like This All The Time.
